BIO
Sonny James is a powerhouse slide guitarist and soulful singer – songwriter. He delivers a raw, rootsy and electrifying blend of delta slide, Mississippi grooves and finely crafted original songs, drawn from the rich heritage of blues and infused with his own unmistakable sound.
Sonny’s sound draws inspiration from Son House, Ry Cooder and Hound Dog Taylor and is heavily influenced by Australian legends Chain, Backsliders and Billy Thorpe.
Sonny James has had the privilege of playing alongside Fiona Boyes on multiple occasions and has been the support act for the Black Sorrows, Angry Anderson, Claire Ann Taylor and Hat Fitz & Cara. He has also regularly toured with fellow Blues men Jesse Redwing and Zed Charles as the Blues Brigade.
2024 saw the release of 3 singles; Tombstone, Six Feet and Sonny’s rendition of John Lee Hooker’s Ground Hog Blues. All of which have received national and international Radio play. Sonny’s Debut Album is set to drop before the end of 2025.
Sonny is also the organiser and host of events such as – Hootenanny, Harwood Hometown Blues and The Blues Brigade. In 2022 Sonny put together a lineup of artist’s for the Clarence Valley Flood Relief which helped raise $12,000 for people affected by flood in the Clarence region where he was born and raised.
